It has been a while since my last illustration post, and even longer since my written post. Busy with schoolwork, I just did not have enough time or the inspiration. It saddens me that today, when I have found the motivation to draw something, it is based on national and perhaps even subcontinental tragedies.
I am talking about the recent highly publicized series of sexual assaults - rape - of women in Nepal and India. Of course these are just the ones that came into prominence: there are many more that are swept under the rug but are no less gruesome and hurtful. I cannot even begin to pretend what it must feel like for these women, especially under the context of an Indian-subcontinent culture, but I can empathize. It is certainly easy to say this or that from the comfort of a hypothetical situation but at the same time, it is important to have this conversation.
But it is also important to have more than just the conversation. We need to fight this oppressive system. We need to create a safe neighbourhood, town, city, country, continent and world for women and men alike. We need to be able to not fear each other anymore.
Love and hope,
Prerana
